What Are We Playing This Week?
I managed to get a little more Hyrule Warriors (Switch) completed, while one day my 2 year old insisted on playing some Atari XEGS, so we played a few titles before she wanted to do something else. Still, I managed a decent score on Caverns of Khafka. It’s faaaar from a perfect game (the collusion detection was absolutely terrible - which sometimes helps, but often does not), but I played it as a kid so give the nostalgia pass.
Otherwise, I was busy coming up with a new Space Force design based on Atari’s Gravitar
What about you?

Streets Of Rage 4 Announced - In a big surprise this morning, Dotemu & Sega unveiled a return to a “cult classic,” Sega’s iconic Streets of Rage series. The series first came around back when brawlers like Turtles In Time, Final Fight and others were kings of the arcades. While the first two SOR’s were available in arcades, they were only made so via the “Mega-Tech” platform, which was Sega’s equivalent of Nintendo’s Playchoice (the home console in an arcade cabinet). This made finding it in arcades a difficult task, Mega-Tech’s rarely show up out there these days. This long-awaited return reminds me a little of Double Dragon Neon; although what will really interest me is if Sega decides to make an arcade version out of this to compete with the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Streets of Rage 4 - Reveal Trailer
Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and Dotemu are thrilled to present Streets of Rage 4. Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.
Making A Halo Arcade Game - I’m sure those who appreciate American industry will enjoy this in particular, as the forces of Microsoft, 343 Industries, Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix came together to make the new Halo arcade game. Granted, it was only because of the latter two companies that this really took place, since they have been a driving force in keeping the arcade flame alive for the past 15 years.

Join us for an inside look at the development of Halo: Fireteam Raven. DAEMON X Machina (SW)Footage From Gamescom 2018 - With the involvement of former Armored Core devs, this should really be of interest to one of our readers (although I haven’t seen CP in these threads in a while). If you’re not interested in the AC series, but enjoy moving giant robots around to blow stuff up, then I think there is plenty to be interested in here:

Infintesimals Making Big Promises (PC) - I stumbled across this on Oneangrygamer (NSFW ads and articles) and found it to be quite intriguing. How To Grow Your Social Media Platform? Get The Brazilians On Board - If you use the social alt-media site Gab at least once a week, then you likely noticed a bit of a shift there this week - one that I would call seismic. The platform exploded with posts in Portuguese, from fed-up Brazilians led by those who are the latest outcasts on Facebook/Whatsapp (the latter FB owned app is *huge* in the country, with more than half of the 200m population using it) & Twitter. Naturally, CNN pretends these people and their situations don’t exist, because their opinions are classified as “wrongthink,” aka, all leaning to the Right. In the aftermath of several high-profile users getting the censor/banhammer, including another Whatsapp censorship fiasco, thousands of Brazilians began making the social switch. Gab seems to have benefited the most from this, seeing user growth reaching around 10,000 per day. The #GetOnGab hashtag was trending on Brazilian Twitter pages; some high profile Brazilians, including a right-leaning professor, a journalist for the 2nd largest TV channel in the country, some Brazilian YouTubers and even a Brazilian royal prince (yes, really) have also joined up.
Very difficult times are ahead for the country regardless; these new Gabbers have an uphill battle in trying to prevent the already socialist Brazil from becoming the next communist Venezuela.
Russia Preps For Mechwarrior Combat - Giant robots made for combat aren’t nothing new, but this is the first I’ve heard of Russia making one. Not sure that these kinds of things are really useful for live combat, but maybe we’ll get there one day:

Asteroids Responsible For At Least 26 Nuclear Bomb-Level Explosions Since 2000 - All as they impact Earth’s atmosphere. Fortunately they have happened in remote areas and tend to be high up; the largest being 660 kilotons of TNT in size. We have been able to detect them through means of microphone arrays, while telescopic tracking hopes to find all of the rocks that might be out there to pose a threat.
B612 Impact Video
Between 2000 and 2013, a network of sensors that monitors Earth around the clock listening for the infrasound signature of nuclear detonations detected 26 explosions on Earth ranging in energy from 1-600 kilotons — all caused not by nuclear explosions, but rather by asteroid impacts.
Space Pr0n Of The Day: The Land Of Giants - 15,000 light-years away is a star cluster we call Westerlund-1. While all star clusters carry some natural beauty about them, this one has some distinctive inhabitants that set it apart. You can’t tell just by looking at this photo, but this region is home to some of the largest stars we’ve discovered. For the red star near the center, the scale is just mind-boggling - if that star were dropped into the place of our Sun, it’s outer surface would reach to Jupiter (it’s 484 million miles from the Sun to Jupiter on average, so that gives you an idea). Our best guess is that this will eventually turn into a proper globular cluster:
