Explosions rocked the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo as Islamic terrorists detonated suicide bombs in churches and hotels on Easter Sunday. Officials have said the blasts were timed to cause maximum casualties as terrorists targeted Christians attending Easter services.
Reports indicate that over 200 people have been killed, and hundreds more have been injured.
More than 50 people were killed at St. Sebastian’s in the town of Katuwapitiya just north of the Sri Lankan capital. The roof of the church was destroyed by the blast.
Four hotels in Colombo were also targeted in the attacks, including the Cinnamon Grand, a luxury hotel frequented by politicians.
One of the explosions was reported to have taken place in the vicinity of the national zoo when security forces managed to corner several terrorists.
Local hospitals have been overwhelmed with the influx of casualties. The eastern port city of Batticaloa saw over 300 people injured in a blast at the Zion church.
The attacks were widely condemned by world leaders including President Trump, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, and Pope Francis.

The government of Sri Lanka has instituted a nationwide curfew as well as a social media ban to combat spreading misinformation about the terror attacks.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the brutal attacks.
